Iarbă canară
Canarul de iarbă este o plantă, Phalaris canariensis, aparținând familiei Poaceae. Inițial, originar din regiunea mediteraneană, este în prezent cultivată în mod comercial în mai multe părți ale lumii pentru o pasăre. Această iarbă mare, grosieră are tulpini erecte, fără păr, de obicei de la 2 la 6 picioare înălțime. Ligulele sunt proeminente și membranoase, cu lungimea de ¼ inch și rotunjite la vârf. Lamele frunze treptat înclinate sunt de 3 ½-10 inchi lungime, ¼-¾ inch lat, plat, și adesea aspru pe ambele suprafețe. Paniculele compacte sunt erecte sau, uneori, ușor de răspândit și au o lungime de 3-16 cm lungime, cu ramuri de ½-1½ centimetri lungime. Florile unice apar în clustere dense în mai până la jumătatea lunii iunie sau august. Inflorescențele sunt verde sau purpuriu la început, apoi devin bronzate. Producția de semințe de canar în 2006 Semințele sunt maro strălucitoare. Sămânța este folosită ca hrană pentru pasari și, în general, este amestecată cu semințe de rapiță și alte semințe care o fac mai ieftine.
