O audiere a copiilor face parte din sistemele legale și de asistență socială din Scoția; aceasta urmărește să combine justiția și bunăstarea copiilor și tinerilor. La 31 martie 2013, 1,4% dintre copiii Scoției au făcut obiectul unei cerințe de supraveghere. O audiere a copiilor este efectuată de trei membri ai tribunalului special amenajat din cadrul grupului pentru copii, un reporter al copiilor, un copil și un tutore legal și un reprezentant al departamentului local de asistență socială. Reporterul copiilor nu participă la procesul de luare a deciziilor privind audierea copiilor. O schimbare a rolului a fost introdusă în septembrie 2009, iar reporterul este capabil să facă declarații în cazul în care grupul este expus riscului de a lua o decizie care, în opinia reporterului, nu este competentă sau corectă din punct de vedere procedural. Reporterul este responsabil de administrarea audierii și reprezintă, de asemenea, deciziile audierilor într-o instanță atunci când motivele de sesizare sunt contestate sau copilul sau persoana relevantă nu este în măsură să înțeleagă și să comenteze declarația motivată.
