Coral
Coralii sunt nevertebrate marine în clasa Anthozoa de cimbru Cnidaria trăind în mod obișnuit în colonii compacte ale multor "polipi" identici individuali. Grupul include constructorii importanți de reci care locuiesc în oceanele tropicale și secretează carbonatul de calciu pentru a forma un schelet greu. Un "cap" de coral este o colonie de miridi de polipi identici genetic. Fiecare polip este un animal fără coloană, de obicei cu numai câțiva milimetri în diametru și câțiva centimetri în lungime. Un set de tentacule înconjoară o deschidere centrală a gurii. Un exoschelet este excretat în apropierea bazei. De-a lungul multor generații, colonia creează astfel un schelet mare care este caracteristic speciei. Capetele individuale cresc prin reproducerea asexuală a polipilor. Coralii reproduc, de asemenea, sexual prin hrănire: polipii aceleiași specii eliberează gameți simultan pe o perioadă de una până la câteva nopți în jurul unei lună plină. Deși unele coralii pot prinde pești mici și planctoni, folosind celule tentaculare, cum ar fi cele din anemonele marine și meduze, majoritatea coralilor obțin majoritatea energiei și substanțelor nutritive din algele fotosintetice unicelulare care trăiesc în țesutul coral numit zooxanthella.

The juvenile sea squirt wanders through the sea searching for a suitable rock or hunk of coral to cling to and make its home for life. For this task, it has a rudimentary nervous system. When it finds its spot and takes root, it doesn't need its brain anymore so it eats it!
The cities are the principal home and seat of the human group. They are the coral colony for Man, the collective being.
Ten percent of the big fish still remain. There are still some blue whales. There are still some krill in Antarctica. There are a few oysters in Chesapeake Bay. Half the coral reefs are still in pretty good shape, a jeweled belt around the middle of the planet. There's still time, but not a lot, to turn things around.
Coral reefs represent some of the world's most spectacular beauty spots, but they are also the foundation of marine life: without them many of the sea's most exquisite species will not survive.
Our globe is under new dramatic environmental pressure: our globe is warming, our ice caps melting, our glaciers receding, our coral is dying, our soils are eroding, our water tables falling, our fisheries are being depleted, our remaining rainforests shrinking. Something is very, very wrong with our eco-system.
