Argumentul cosmologic este un argument pentru existența unei prime cauze a universului și, prin extensie, este adesea folosit ca argument pentru existența unei ființe "necondiționate" sau "supreme", de obicei identificată ca Dumnezeu. The cosmological argument is an argument for the existence of a First Cause to the universe, and by extension is often used as an argument for the existence of an "unconditioned" or "supreme" being, usually then identified as God. It is traditionally known as an argument from universal causation, an argument from first cause, the causal argument or the argument from existence. Whichever term is employed, there are three basic variants of the argument, each with subtle yet important distinctions: the arguments from in causa, in esse and in fieri. The basic premise of all of these is that something caused or continuously causes the Universe to exist, and this First Cause is what religious people correlate to God. Skeptics and non-religious people often cite The Big Bang as the First Cause. William Lane Craig argues that the Big Bang supports variations of the Cosmological argument, namely the Kalam, proposing that the premise that the universe is finite and not infinite has been vindicated by the Big Bang and supplementary research.
