Ecologia este studiul științific al interacțiunilor dintre organisme și mediul lor, cum ar fi organismele de interacțiune care există între ele și cu mediul lor abiotic. Subiectele de interes pentru ecologiști includ diversitatea, distribuția, cantitatea, numărul de organisme, precum și concurența dintre acestea în interiorul și între ecosisteme.
