Viitorul este ceea ce se va întâmpla în perioada de după prezent. Sosirea sa este considerată inevitabilă datorită existenței timpului și a legilor fizicii. Datorită naturii aparente a realității și inevitabilității viitorului, tot ceea ce există în prezent și care va exista poate fi clasificat fie ca fiind permanent, adică că va exista pentru întregul viitor sau temporar, ceea ce înseamnă că nu va și astfel se va termina. Viitorul și conceptul eternității au fost subiecte majore ale filosofiei, religiei și științei, iar definirea lor fără controverse a evitat în mod constant cele mai mari minți. În perspectiva Occidentală, care folosește o concepție liniară a timpului, viitorul este partea din linia de timp proiectată care se preconizează că va avea loc. În relativitate specială, viitorul este considerat viitor absolut sau viitorul con de lumină. În filozofia timpului, presentismul este convingerea că numai prezentul există, iar viitorul și trecutul sunt ireale. Religiile consideră viitorul când abordează probleme cum ar fi karma, viața după moarte și eshatologii care studiază ce va fi sfârșitul timpului și sfârșitul lumii.
