Este ușor de identificat prin apelul său distinctiv, care este descris ca asemănătoare unei porți scârțâitoare, sau sunetul unui pluș care este tras dintr-o sticlă de vin. Numele de bandă Gang provine dintr-un limbaj Aboriginal din New South Wales, fie Ngunnawal, fie Wiradjuri. Este posibil ca ambele grupuri de limbi să o numească bandă de bandă.
