O perioadă glaciară este un interval de timp într-o epocă de gheață care este marcat de temperaturi mai reci și de avansurile ghețarului. Interglacialii, pe de altă parte, sunt perioade de climă mai calde între perioadele glaciare. Ultima perioadă glaciară sa încheiat cu aproximativ 15.000 de ani în urmă; Epoca holocenului este actualul interglacial.
