Mikhail Sergeyevich Gorbachev (rusă: Михаил Сергеевич Горбачёв, tr. Mikhail Sergeyevich Gorbachyov, IPA: (ascultați), născut la 2 martie 1931) este un fost om de stat sovietic. El a fost cel de-al șaptelea și ultimul lider al Uniunii Sovietice, fiind secretar general al Partidului Comunist al Uniunii Sovietice din 1985 până în 1991 și șef de stat al țării din 1988 până la dizolvarea sa în 1991 (numit președinte al Presidiu al Sovietului Suprem din 1988 până în 1989, în calitate de președinte al Sovietului Suprem din 1989 până în 1990 și președinte al Uniunii Sovietice între 1990 și 1991). El a fost singurul secretar general din istoria Uniunii Sovietice care sa născut după Revoluția din octombrie. Gorbaciov sa născut în Stavropol Krai într-o familie țărănească ruso-ucrainiană, iar în adolescenții săi operați pe combine agricole colective. A absolvit Universitatea de Stat din Moscova în 1955, cu diplomă în drept. În timp ce era la universitate, sa alăturat Partidului Comunist și, în curând, a devenit foarte activ în cadrul acestuia.
