Lumea greco-romană, cultura greco-romană sau termenul greco-roman, atunci când este folosit ca adjectiv, așa cum este înțeleasă de cercetători și scriitori moderni, se referă la acele regiuni și țări geografice care erau direct, pe termen lung și intim influențată de limbajul, cultura, guvernarea și religia anticelor greci și romani. În termeni exacți, zona se referă la "lumea mediteraneană", la suprafețele extinse de teren centralizate pe bazinele mediteraneene și la Marea Neagră, "piscina și spa-ul" grecilor și romanilor, adică una în care percepțiile culturale, ideile și sensibilitățile acestor popoare au fost dominante. Așa cum am menționat, termenul greco-romană descrie acele regiuni care, de multe generații, au fost supuse guvernului grecilor și apoi romanilor și astfel au acceptat sau, în cele din urmă, au fost forțați să-i imbratiseze ca stăpâni și profesori. Acest proces a fost ajutat de adoptarea aparent universală a limbii grecești ca limbă a culturii intelectuale și cel puțin a comerțului oriental, iar cea latină ca limbă pentru managementul public și advocacy medico-legale, în special în Occident.

The Greco-Roman world, Greco-Roman culture, or the term Greco-Roman, when used as an adjective, as understood by modern scholars and writers, refers to those geographical regions and countries that culturally were directly, long-term, and intimately influenced by the language, culture, government and religion of the ancient Greeks and Romans. In exact terms the area refers to the "Mediterranean world", the extensive tracts of land centered on the Mediterranean and Black Sea basins, the "swimming-pool and spa" of the Greeks and Romans, i.e. one wherein the cultural perceptions, ideas and sensitivities of these peoples were dominant. As mentioned, the term Greco-Roman world describes those regions who were for many generations subjected to the government of the Greeks and then the Romans and thus accepted or at length were forced to embrace them as their masters and teachers. This process was aided by the seemingly universal adoption of Greek as the language of intellectual culture and at least Eastern commerce, and of Latin as the tongue for public management and forensic advocacy, especially in the West.
