Heliometer
Heliometrul este un instrument conceput inițial pentru măsurarea variației diametrului soarelui în diferite anotimpuri ale anului, dar aplicat acum la forma modernă a instrumentului, capabilă de o utilizare mult mai largă. Conceptul de bază este acela de a introduce un element divizat într-o cale optică a telescopului pentru a produce o imagine dublă. Dacă un element este mutat utilizând un micrometru cu șurub, se pot efectua măsurători precise ale unghiului. Cel mai simplu aranjament este împărțirea obiectivului în jumătate; cu o jumătate fixă și cealaltă atașată la șurubul micrometric și alunecată de-a lungul diametrului tăiat.
