Histologie
Histologia este studiul anatomiei microscopice a celulelor și țesuturilor plantelor și animalelor. Se efectuează în mod obișnuit prin examinarea celulelor și a țesuturilor prin secționare și colorare, urmată de examinare sub microscop de lumină sau microscop electronic. Studiile histologice pot fi efectuate prin intermediul culturilor de țesut, în care celulele vii pot fi izolate și menținute într-un mediu adecvat în afara corpului pentru diferite proiecte de cercetare. Capacitatea de a vizualiza sau de a identifica în mod diferențial structurile microscopice este adesea sporită prin utilizarea de pete histologice. Histologia este un instrument esențial al biologiei și medicinei. Histopatologia, studiul microscopic al țesuturilor bolnave, este un instrument important în patologia anatomică, deoarece diagnosticarea exactă a cancerului și a altor boli necesită de obicei examinarea histopatologică a probelor. Medici instruiți, adesea certificați ca patologi, sunt personalul care efectuează examinări histopatologice și furnizează informații de diagnostic pe baza observațiilor lor.
