O bobină de inducție sau o "bobină de scânteie" este un tip de transformator electric utilizat pentru a produce impulsuri de înaltă tensiune dintr-o sursă de curent continuu de joasă tensiune. Pentru a crea schimbările de flux necesare pentru a induce tensiunea în secundar, curentul direct în primar este întrerupt în mod repetat de un contact mecanic vibrat numit întrerupător. Dezvoltat începând din 1836 de Nicholas Callan și alții, bobina de inducție a fost primul tip de transformator. Acestea au fost utilizate pe scară largă în mașinile cu raze X, emițătoarele de radiotelefonie, iluminatul arcului și dispozitivele electrotherapeutice medicale de la anii 1880 până în anii 1920. Astăzi singura lor utilizare este ca bobinele de aprindere în motoarele cu combustie internă și în educația fizică pentru a demonstra inducția.
