Ionization

Ionizarea este procesul prin care un atom sau o moleculă dobândește o sarcină negativă sau pozitivă prin câștigarea sau pierderea electronilor. Ionizarea rezultă din interacțiunea unui atom sau a unei molecule cu particule sub atomice sau cu unde electromagnetice pe capătul scurt al lungimii de undă a spectrului electromagnetic care are suficientă energie cinetică pentru a provoca ionizarea. Ionizarea poate să apară în absența unei influențe externe prin procesul de conversie internă, prin care un nucleu excitat își transferă energia către unul dintre electronii din interiorul coajă și îl eliberează cu o energie cinetică ridicată. Procesul de ionizare prezintă un interes deosebit pentru știința fundamentală. Se întâlnește, de asemenea, în multe domenii de interes practic, variind de la spectroscopia de masă până la radioterapia pentru eliminarea celulelor canceroase. Evident, toate aspectele procesului de ionizare nu pot fi abordate într-un singur articol enciclopedic. Aici, ionizarea este descrisă prin invocarea cazului simplu al unui atom în câmpul laser puternic. Cazul este supus unui tratament analitic și reprezintă principalele caracteristici ale procesului.

Ionization is the process by which an atom or a molecule acquires a negative or positive charge by gaining or losing electrons. Ionization results from the interaction of an atom or a molecule with a sub atomic particle or electromagnetic waves on the short wavelength end of the electromagnetic spectrum which have enough kinetic energy to cause ionization. Ionization can occur in the absence of an external influence by internal conversion process, through which an excited nucleus transfers its energy to one of the inner-shell electrons and ejects it with high kinetic energy. The ionization process is of particular interest in fundamental science. It is also encountered in many fields of practical interest, ranging from mass spectroscopy to radiotherapy for eliminating cancer cells. Obviously, all aspects of the ionization process cannot be addressed in a single encyclopedic article. Here, ionization is described by invoking the simple case of an atom in strong laser field. The case is amenable to analytic treatment and represents the main characteristics of the process.
