Linia laterală este un sistem de organe de simț care se găsesc în vertebratele acvatice, în special pești, folosite pentru a detecta mișcarea și vibrațiile în apa din jur. Capacitatea senzorială se realizează prin intermediul celulelor epiteliale modificate, cunoscute sub numele de celule de păr, care răspund la deplasarea cauzată de mișcare, mișcare și transduce aceste semnale în impulsuri electrice prin intermediul sinapsei excitației. Liniile laterale servesc un rol important în comportamentul școlar, predarea și orientarea.
