În biologia celulară, microzomii sunt artefacte asemănătoare veziculelor re-formate din bucăți din reticulul endoplasmatic atunci când celulele eucariote sunt rupte în laborator; prin definiție, microzomii nu sunt în mod obișnuit prezenți în celulele vii. Microzomii pot fi concentrați și separați de alte resturi celulare prin centrifugare diferențială. Celule, nuclee și mitocondriile neregulate sunt sedimentate la 10.000 g, în timp ce enzimele solubile și ER fragmentate, care conțin citocromul P450, rămân în soluție. La 100.000g, obținut prin rotație mai rapidă a centrifugii, ER sedimentează din soluție ca peleți, dar enzimele solubile rămân în supernatant. În acest fel, citocromul P450 în microzomi este concentrat și izolat. Microzomii au o culoare maro-roșcat, datorită prezenței cofactorului care conține fier, heme, în P450. P450s sunt foarte abundente în ficat de șobolani, șoareci și oameni. Microsomii sunt un instrument valoros pentru investigarea metabolismului compușilor și pentru examinarea interacțiunilor medicamento-medicament prin cercetarea in vitro.
