Kgalema Petrus Motlanthe este un politician sud-african care a fost președinte al Africii de Sud între 25 septembrie 2008 și 9 mai 2009, în urma demisiei lui Thabo Mbeki. După încheierea președinției sale, Motlanthe a fost numit în funcția de vicepreședinte al Africii de Sud de către succesorul său, președintele actual al Africii de Sud, Jacob Zuma. Motlanthe a ocupat postul de vicepreședinte al Congresului Național African, o funcție pe care o deținea în perioada 2007 - 2012, când a refuzat să candideze pentru un al doilea mandat. La cea de-a 53-a Conferință Națională ANC din Mangaung, statul liber, Motlanthe a candidat pentru funcția de președinte al ANC, dar a fost învins în mod serios de Zuma, care a câștigat realegerea. El a fost urmat ca vicepreședinte de către Cyril Ramaphosa, dar a rămas vicepreședinte al Africii de Sud până când a fost din nou reușit de către Ramaphosa în 2014.
