Parazitismul este o relație simbiotică ne-reciprocă între specii, unde o specie, parazitul, beneficiază în detrimentul celuilalt, gazda. În mod tradițional, parazitul se referă în primul rând la organisme vizibile cu ochiul liber sau macroparazite. Parazitul include acum microparazite, care sunt de obicei mai mici, cum ar fi virusurile și bacteriile. Câteva exemple de paraziți includ vâscul de plante și cuscuta și animale, cum ar fi viermii de cârnați.
