Parmenide
Parmenides de Elea a fost un filozof grec antic, născut în Elea, un oraș grecesc de pe coasta de sud a orașului Magna Graecia. El a fost fondatorul școlii filosofice Eleatic. Singura lucrare cunoscută a lui Parmenides este un poem, Despre natură, care a supraviețuit numai în formă fragmentară. În acest poem, Parmenides descrie două puncte de vedere ale realității. În "calea adevărului", el explică modul în care realitatea este una, schimbarea este imposibilă, iar existența este atemporală, uniformă, necesară și neschimbată. În "modul de opinie", el explică lumea aparențelor, în care facultățile senzoriale conduc la concepții false și înșelătoare. Aceste idei au avut un efect puternic asupra lui Platon și, la rândul lui, au influențat întreaga filozofie occidentală.
