Raportul lui Poisson, numit după Siméon Poisson, este raportul negativ al efortului transversal spre axial. Atunci când un material este comprimat într-o singură direcție, el are tendința de a se extinde în celelalte două direcții perpendiculare sau paralele cu direcția de curgere.
