Prosimian
Prosimienii sunt un tip de primat care includ lemuri, lorize, bushbabies și tarsiers, dar nu simieni, de ex. maimuțe și maimuțe. Acestea sunt considerate a avea caracteristici mai "primitive" decât cele ale maimuțelor și maimuțelor. Prosimienii sunt singurele primate originare din Madagascar, dar se găsesc și în Africa și Asia. Cu excepția tarsierilor, toți prosimienii existenți se află în subordinea Strepsirrhini. Deoarece simienii nu sunt incluși în grupul prosimian, chiar dacă și ei coboară din strămoșul comun cel mai recent prosimian, prosimienii sunt un grup parafietic și nu un grup. Adapiformii sunt o grupare extinctă, care erau atât prosimi, cât și strepsirrhine. Omomyiformele sunt un alt grup disimulat de prosimieni, dar se crede că sunt haplorine, strâns legate de tarsieri, dar un outgroup pentru restul haplorinelor. Termenul "prosimian" nu mai este folosit în taxonomia oficială, dar este încă folosit pentru a ilustra ecologia comportamentală a tarsierilor față de celelalte primate.
