Protozoare
Protozoarele sunt un grup divers de organisme eucariote unicelulare, multe dintre acestea fiind motile. Din punct de vedere istoric, protozoarele au fost definite ca anti-testuri unicelulare cu comportament asemănător animalului, cum ar fi mișcarea sau adică motilitatea. Protozoarele au fost considerate ca fiind grupul partener al prostilor la prototip, care au un comportament asemănător plantelor, de ex. fotosinteză. Termenul protozoare a devenit foarte problematic datorită introducerii unor tehnici ultrastructurale, biochimice și genetice moderne. Astăzi, protozoarele sunt, de obicei, eucariote monoculare și heterotrofice care conțin structuri non-filamentoase care aparțin oricărei linii mari de contraste. Acestea sunt limitate la habitate umede sau acvatice. Multe specii de protozoare sunt simbionți, unii sunt paraziți, iar unii sunt prădători ai fecalelor bacterii și alge. Există aproximativ 30.000 de specii de protozoare.
