Procesul Solvay sau procesul de amoniac-sifon este procesul industrial important pentru producerea de carbonat de sodiu. Procesul amoniac-sodă a fost dezvoltat în forma sa modernă de Ernest Solvay în anii 1860. Ingredientele pentru acest proces sunt ușor accesibile și sunt ieftine: saramură de sare și calcar. Producția mondială de carbonat de sodiu în 2005 a fost estimată la 42 miliarde de kilograme, ceea ce reprezintă mai mult de șase kilograme pe an pentru fiecare persoană de pe Pământ. Instalațiile chimice de la Solvay produc acum aproximativ trei sferturi din această cantitate, restul fiind extras din depozitele naturale.
