Burrhus Frederic Skinner a fost un psiholog american, comportament, autor, inventator și filozof social. El a fost profesorul de psihologie Edgar Pierce de la Universitatea Harvard din 1958 până la pensionarea sa în 1974. Skinner a inventat camera de condiționare a operantului, cunoscută și sub numele de "Boxerul Skinner". El a fost un credincios ferm al ideii că liberul arbitru uman a fost de fapt o iluzie și orice acțiune umană a fost rezultatul consecințelor aceleiași acțiuni. Dacă consecințele ar fi rele, au existat șanse mari ca acțiunea să nu se repete; cu toate acestea, dacă consecințele ar fi bune, acțiunile care au condus la aceasta ar fi consolidate.
