Tegmentul este o zonă generală a trunchiului trunchiului. Acesta este situat între sistemul ventricular și structurile distincte bazale sau ventrale la fiecare nivel. Formează podeaua miezului central, în timp ce tectumul formează tavanul. Este o rețea multisinaptică de neuroni care este implicată în multe căi inconștiente homeostatice și reflexive. Tegmentul este locația mai multor nuclee nervoase craniene. Miezurile CN III și IV sunt situate în porțiunea tegmentului miezului central. Nucleul de la CN V la VIII este localizat în tegmentul de la nivelul pons. Nucleele CN IX, X și XII sunt situate în nucleul celulei medulla.
