Thecodontia, considerată acum o grupare taxonomică depășită, a fost folosită anterior pentru a descrie o "ordine" diversă a reptilelor timpurii arhaosauriene care au apărut pentru prima dată în ultima perioadă permiană și au înflorit până la sfârșitul perioadei triasice. Toate au fost construite oarecum ca crocodilii, dar cu cranii mai scurte, cu posturi mai înalte și, de obicei, ceva mai ușoare. Grupul include strămoșii dinozaurilor, pterosaurii și crocodililor, precum și o serie de forme disparute care nu au dat naștere unor descendenți. Termenul "thecodont" este încă folosit ca o descriere anatomică a morfologiei dintelui observată la aceste specii și altele.
