В метре цезура (/ siːʒjʊərə / or / sɪʒʊrə / (латинский: caedere), альтернативные варианты написания - cæsura и cesura) - полная пауза в стихотворной поэзии или в музыкальной композиции. Множественная форма цезуры - цезура. В поэзии мужская цезура следует ударному слогу, а женская цезура - безударному слогу. Цезура также описывается его положением в строке поэзии. Цезура, близкая к началу строки, называется начальной цезурой, одна в середине линии медиальной, а одна рядом с концом линии - терминальной. Начальная и конечная цезура были редкими в формальном, романском и неоклассическом стихе, которые предпочли медиальную цезуру. В стихотворении, поэзии, написанной знаками, указывающими длину и стресс слогов, знак «двойной трубы» («») используется для обозначения положения цезуры. В музыкальной нотации цезура обозначает кратковременную паузу, в течение которой метрическое время не учитывается. Подобно тихим ферматам, цезуры расположены между нотами или мерами (до или над штриховыми линиями), а не на нотах или остатках (как у ферматы).
