Гора Эльбрус (русский: Эльбрус, тр. Эльбрус, ПНД: Карачаево-Балкарский: Минги тау, Минь-тау, МПА: (слушайте)) - спящий вулкан, расположенный в горном хребте Западного Кавказа, в Кабардино-Балкарии и Карачае -Керкессия России, недалеко от границы с Грузией. Mt. Пик Эльбруса самый высокий в России. Эльбрус имеет два вершины, оба из которых являются доминирующими вулканическими куполами. Mt. Эльбрус (западная вершина) составляет 5 642 метра (18 510 футов); восточная вершина немного ниже на 5621 метр (18 442 фута). Нижняя из двух вершин была впервые поднята 10 июля 1829 года (юлианский календарь) Хилларом Хачировым, карачаевским проводником научной экспедиции Императорской русской армии во главе с генералом Эммануэлем, а высший (примерно 20 м - 70 футов) в 1874 году английской экспедицией под руководством Ф. Крауфорда Гроува и в том числе Фредериком Гарднером, Горацией Уокером и швейцарским гидом Питером Кнубелем из Святого Никлауса в кантоне Вале.
