В геологии фация представляет собой тело скалы с определенными характеристиками. В идеальном случае фация представляет собой отличительную группу пород, которая образуется при определенных условиях седиментации, отражающая конкретный процесс или окружающую среду. Термин фации был введен швейцарским геологом Аманцем Грессли в 1838 году и был частью его значительного вклада в основы современной стратиграфии, которые заменили более ранние представления о нептунизме.
