Хорошая подгонка статистической модели описывает, насколько хорошо она подходит для набора наблюдений. Меры добротности соответствия обычно суммируют несоответствие между наблюдаемыми значениями и значениями, ожидаемыми в рамках рассматриваемой модели. Такие меры могут использоваться при тестировании статистических гипотез, например. для проверки нормальности остатков, чтобы проверить, взяты ли два образца из одинаковых распределений, или частоты результатов следуют указанному распределению. При анализе дисперсии один из компонентов, в которые разбивается дисперсия, может быть недостатком суммы квадратов.
