Ulex - род цветущих растений семейства Fabaceae. Род включает около 20 видов тернистых вечнозеленых кустарников в подсемействе Faboideae семейства гороха Fabaceae. Эти виды являются родными для частей Западной Европы и северо-западной Африки, причем большинство видов в Иберии. Горс тесно связан с метлами, и, как и они, имеет зеленые стебли и очень маленькие листья и приспособлен для сухих условий роста. Однако он отличается необычайной колючкой, а побеги превращаются в разветвленные шипы длиной 1-4 сантиметра, которые почти полностью заменяют листья как функционирующие фотосинтезирующие органы растения. Листья молодых растений трифолируют, но на зрелых растениях они уменьшаются до чешуек или небольших шипов. Все виды имеют желтые цветы, обычно эффектные, некоторые с очень длинным цветущим сезоном.
