Мегалобластическая анемия (или мегалобластная анемия) представляет собой анемию (макроцитарной классификации), которая является результатом ингибирования синтеза ДНК во время производства эритроцитов. Когда синтез ДНК нарушается, клеточный цикл не может прогрессировать от стадии роста G2 до стадии митоза (М). Это приводит к продолжению роста клеток без деления, которое представляет собой макроцитоз. Мегалобластическая анемия имеет довольно медленное начало, особенно по сравнению с другими анемиями. Дефект синтеза ДНК красных клеток чаще всего связан с гиповитаминозом, в частности дефицитом витамина B12 и / или фолиевой кислоты.
