Операционная комната - это тактический центр военного корабля или самолета АВАК, который предоставляет обработанную информацию для управления ближним боевым пространством или «областью операций». В рамках других военных команд комнаты, обслуживающие аналогичные функции, называются аналогичным «Информационным центром команд» или просто «Командным центром»; число различных терминов для пространств, которые обслуживают одну и ту же функцию, может объяснить, почему распространенный термин «Центр операций» является обычным и вообще не описательным. Независимо от судна или командного локуса, каждый ЦИК организует и обрабатывает информацию в форме, более удобной и пригодной для управления командиром. Каждый CIC объединяет сообщения и данные, полученные по нескольким каналам, которые затем организуются, оцениваются, взвешиваются и упорядочиваются для обеспечения упорядоченного потока информации в командный состав боевого командования под контролем сотрудника КИК и его заместителей.
