Тень
Тень - это область, где прямой свет от источника света не может достичь из-за обструкции объекта. Он занимает все пространство за непрозрачным объектом со светом перед ним. Поперечное сечение тени представляет собой двумерный силуэт или обратную проекцию объекта, блокирующего свет. Солнечный свет заставляет многие объекты иметь тени в определенное время суток. Угол солнца, его видимая высота в небе вызывает изменение длины теней. Низкие углы создают более длинные тени. Существуют три отдельные части тени, создаваемые любым неточечным источником света после попадания на непрозрачный объект, называемый umbra, penumbra и antumbra. Для точечного источника бросается только umbra. Эти имена чаще всего используются для теней, создаваемых астрономическими объектами, хотя иногда они используются для описания уровней темноты, например, в солнечных пятнах. Астрономический объект бросает видимые человеком тени, когда его кажущаяся величина равна или ниже -4. В настоящее время единственными астрономическими объектами, способными создавать видимые тени на Земле, являются солнце, луна и, в правильных условиях, Венера или Юпитер.
