Советизация - это термин, который может использоваться с двумя различными значениями: ▪ принятие политической системы, основанной на модели советов. ▪ принятие образа жизни и менталитета, смоделированного после Советского Союза. Заметная волна советизации произошла во время и после Второй мировой войны в Восточной Европе. В широком смысле это включало в себя принятие советских институтов, законов, обычаев, традиций и советского образа жизни как на национальном уровне, так и в небольших общинах. Обычно это пропагандировалось и ускорялось пропагандой, направленной на создание общего образа жизни во всех государствах в советской сфере влияния. Во многих случаях советизация также сопровождалась принудительным переселением крупных категорий «классовых врагов» в трудовые лагеря Гюлаг и поселковые поселения. В узком смысле термин «советизация» часто применяется к психическим и социальным изменениям в составе населения Советского Союза и его спутников, что привело к созданию нового советского человека или Homo Sovieticus.
