Fonetismul indică prezența unui infix nazal din lat., cf. forma atestată inpsuius (după Densusianu, Hlr., 144, prin fonetică sintactică, în cazuri ca in ipso, cum ipso). Pron. de identitate, folosit ca adj. (îns împăratul la Coresi; înv., astăzi înlocuit de însumi), ca s. (înv.) sau ca pron.pers. de I.-a persoană (la cazuri prepoziționale, înv.; astăzi se păstrează acest uz numai în construcția printr’însul,cf.înv.într’îns, cătr’îns, spr’îns = spre îns, cunus = cu îns). Cf.adins. În general ieșit din uz cu forma sa primitivă, îns se folosește astăzi mai ales cu una din cele patru forme următoare: Ins,s. m. (individ, persoană, tip), suna îns pînă la jumătatea sec. XIX; fonetismul modern pare a se explica prin legături sintactice. Cf.însă,s. f. (persoană, tip). Dînsul (f.dînsa,pl.dînșii, dînsele), pron. (el însuși), cu prep.de (după Diez, II, 24), din lat.idem ipse), cf.it.desso „el însuși”, comel denso „omonim”, friul.zenso „omonim” (Tagliavini, Arch. Rom., X, 107). Folosit fără restricție în Mold., în Munt. se aplică exclusiv persoanelor, și s-a ajuns chiar să se diferențieze de „el”, ca formulă de politețe proprie persoanei a treia: mă duc cu el față de mă duc cu dînsul „merg cu domnia sa”.
