Aklimatizasyon, bireysel bir organizmanın çevredeki kademeli bir değişimi ayarlaması ve bir dizi çevresel koşul boyunca performansını sürdürmesine izin veren süreçtir. İklimlendirme, kısa bir süre içerisinde ve organizmanın ömrü boyunca gerçekleşir. Bu, ayrı bir olay olabilir veya bunun yerine, hafif bir yaz ceketinin lehine ağır kış kürkü dökülen bir memelinin periyodik döngünün bir parçasını temsil edebilir. Organizmalar, morfolojik, davranışsal, fiziksel ve / veya biyokimyasal özelliklerini çevrelerindeki değişmelere yanıt olarak ayarlayabilirler. Yeni çevrelere uyum sağlama kapasitesi binlerce türde belgelenmiş olsa da, araştırmacılar hala organizmaların neden ve nasıl yaptıklarına göre çok az şey biliyorlar. Teknik bir terim olarak kullanıldığında, uyuma uyum, doğal bir işleme atıfta bulunurken, aklimasyon terimi, deneysel bir manipülasyonda dayatılan sıcaklığın değişiklikleri gibi yapay veya kontrollü bir duruma yanıt olarak ortaya çıkan değişiklikler için saklıdır.
