Tebrik, insanların kasıtlı olarak varlıklarını birbirlerine tanıdıkları, dikkat gösterdikleri ve birbirleriyle temas kuran kişi veya gruplar arasında bir ilişki veya sosyal statü öneren bir iletişim eylemidir. Selamlar bazen konuşmadan hemen önce veya kaldırım veya iz gibi geçerken selamlamak için kullanılırlar. Törenle ilgili gelenekler çok kültürlüdür ve duruma özgüdür ve toplumsal statüye ve ilişkiye bağlı olarak bir kültür içinde değişebilirken, bilinen tüm insanlık kültürlerinde var olurlar.
