Bir hapşırık, burun mukoza zarı tahrişinden kaynaklanan patlayıcı, spazmodik istemsiz bir eylemde, ağız ve burundan zorla hava çekir. Hapşırma, muhtemelen parlak ışığa ani maruz kalınması, sıcaklığın ani bir şekilde değişmesi, soğuk hava esintisi, özellikle dolu bir mide veya viral enfeksiyon ile bağlantılı olup, hastalığın yayılmasına neden olabilir.
