Centromere, kardeş kromatidleri birleştiren bir kromozomun parçasıdır. Mitoz sırasında iğ iplikçikleri kinetochore vasıtasıyla centromere bağlanır. Centromeres ilk önce kromozomların davranışını yönlendiren genetik lokus olarak tanımlandı.
