Sulu çözelti
Sulu bir çözelti, çözücünün su olduğu bir çözümdür. Genellikle kimyasal denklemlerde ilgili formüle eklenerek gösterilir. Örneğin, sıradan sofra tuzu veya sodyum klorürün sudaki bir çözeltisi, NaCl olarak temsil edilecektir. Sulu sözcük, su ile ilgili, onunla benzer, su içinde çözünmüş demektir. Su mükemmel bir çözücü olduğundan ve doğal olarak bol olduğundan kimyada her yerde bulunan bir çözücüdür. Hidrofobik olan maddeler genellikle suda iyi çözünmezler, buna karşın hidrofilik olanlar yaparlar. Bir hidrofilik madde örneği sodyum klorürdür. Asitler ve bazlar, Arrhenius tanımlarının bir parçası olarak sulu çözeltilerdir. Bir maddenin suda çözülme kabiliyeti, maddenin kendi aralarında su çekirdeğinin yarattığı kuvvetli cazibe kuvvetlerine uyup uymayacağına bağlıdır. Maddenin suda erime kabiliyeti yoksa, moleküller bir çökelti oluştururlar. Elektrik akımını etkili bir şekilde yöneten sulu solüsyonlar güçlü elektrolitler içerirken kötü performans gösteren elektrotlar zayıf elektrolitlerdir.
