Artroskopi, eklemin küçük bir kesi ile eklem içine yerleştirilen bir endoskop olan arthroscope kullanılarak incelenmesi ve bazen hasarın tedavi edildiği bir eklem için minimal invaziv bir cerrahi prosedürdür. Yırtılmış kıkırdak, yırtık yüzey kıkırdağı, ÇB rekonstrüksiyonu ve hasarlı kıkırdak kırpma gibi birçok ortopedik koşulları değerlendirmek veya tedavi etmek için artroskopik işlemler yapılabilir. Geleneksel açık cerrahiye göre avantaj, eklemin tamamen açılması gerekmemesi. Diz artroskopisi için bir tane de artroskop için ve diğeri de diz boşluğunda kullanılacak cerrahi aletler için iki küçük insizyon yapılır. Bu, iyileşme süresini azaltır ve bağ dokusuna daha az travma nedeniyle başarı oranını artırabilir. Diz eklemlerini sık sık yaralayan ve hızlı iyileşme süresi gerektiren profesyonel sporcular için özellikle yararlıdır. Daha küçük insizyonlardan dolayı da daha az yara izi vardır. Sulama sıvısı, eklemi genişletmek ve cerrahi alan oluşturmak için kullanılır. Bazen bu sıvı çevreleyen yumuşak dokuya sızar, ödem oluşturur. Cerrahi aletler geleneksel aletlerden daha küçüktür.
