Otoörotizm, iç uyarılarla cinsel yolla uyarılmış olma uygulamasıdır. Terim, 19. yüzyılın sonlarına doğru, otoerotizmi "başka bir kimseden doğrudan veya dolaylı olarak harici bir uyaranın yokluğunda üretilen spontan cinsel duygu olgusu" olarak tanımlayan Britanyalı seksolog Havelock Ellis tarafından popülerleştirildi. En yaygın otoerotik uygulama mastürbasyon olup, iki terim birbirinin yerine kullanılır; ancak, otoerotik davranışların hepsi masturbatory değil.
