Davranışçılık, felsefenin, metodolojinin ve teorinin unsurlarını birleştiren psikolojiye bir yaklaşımdır. Yirminci yüzyılın başında sıkı deney yöntemleri kullanılarak test edilebilen tahminlerde zorluk çeken "zihinsel" psikolojiye bir tepki olarak ortaya çıktı. John B. Watson, B. F. Skinner ve diğerlerinin yazılarında ifade edilen davranışcılığın temel ilkesi, psikolojinin zihinlerinde gözlemlenebilecek olaylarla değil insanın ve hayvanların gözlemlenebilir davranışıyla ilgilidir.
