BENTHOS SÖZCÜĞÜ İNGILIZCE DİLİNDE NE ANLAMA GELİR?
Benthos
Bentos, deniz dibinde veya deniz kenarında yaşayan, bentik bölge olarak da bilinen organizmalar topluluğudur. Bu topluluk, kıyı boyunca gelişen gelgit havuzlarından, kıta sahanlığına kadar, ardından derin deniz derinliklerine kadar denizel tortul ortamlarda ya da yakınında yaşıyor. Derin su basıncına adapte edilen birçok organizma, su sütununun üst bölümlerinde hayatta kalamaz. Basınç farkı çok önemli olabilir. Işık, çok derin okyanus sularına nüfuz etmediğinden, derin bentik ekosistemler için enerji kaynağı, çoğunlukla su sütununda derinliklere doğru sürüklenen organik madde. Bu ölü ve bozunan madde, bentik gıda zincirini devam ettirir; bentik bölgedeki organizmaların çoğu süpürücü ya da tahrip edicidir. Bentos terimi Yunan adası βένθος "deniz derinliği" nden gelmektedir. Bentos, tatlısu biyolojisinde, göller, nehirler ve dereler gibi tatlısu bünyelerindeki organizmaları belirtmek için de kullanılır.
