Biyotop
Biyotop, belirli bitkiler ve hayvan topluluğu için yaşanabilir bir ortam sunan tekdüze çevre koşullarının bir alandır. Biotop, İngilizce konuşulan ülkelerde daha sık kullanılan habitat terimiyle eş anlamlıdır. Bununla birlikte, bazı ülkelerde bu iki terim ayırt edilir: Bir yaşam alanı konusu bir tür veya bir nüfustur, bir biyotop konusu biyolojik bir topluluktur. Alman "Biotop" dan türetilen bir İngiliz ödünç kelimesi, sırasıyla Yunan bios'tan "yaşam" ya da "organizma" ve topos = "yer" den kaynaklanmaktadır. Kelimenin tam anlamıyla tercüme edildiği biyotop, hayatın yaşadığı bir alanı ifade eder.
