İngiliz Somaliland, günümüzde kuzeybatı Somali'de bulunan bir İngiliz korumasıydı. Varlığının büyük bir kısmı için, İtalyan Somaliland, Fransız Somaliland ve Etiyopya ile sınırlandırıldı. 1940-1941 yılları arasında İtalyanlar tarafından işgal edildi ve İtalyan Doğu Afrika'nın bir parçasıydı. Protectorate kısaca 26 Haziran 1960'da Somali Eyaleti olarak Somali Eyaletinde birleşmeden önce bağımsızlığını 1 Temmuz 1960'da Somali Cumhuriyeti'ni oluşturmak üzere elde etti. Somaliland hükümeti, uluslararası kabul gören kendi kendini ilan eden egemen bir devlettir. Somali'nin otonom bir bölgesi, bu bölgeyi Somaliland eyaletinin halefi devleti olarak görüyor.
