Kablo
Bir kablo yan yana çalışan iki veya daha fazla tel olup tek bir montaj oluşturmak için birbirine yapıştırılmış, bükümlü veya örgülüdür. Başlangıçta, saat yönünde birden fazla halatın saatin ters yönünde döndürülmüş olduğu, belirli uzunlukta bir deniz çizgisine atıfta bulunulan bu terim, büyük gemi demirlemek için kullanılan, su absorpsiyonuna dirençli, kuvvetli bir kalın çizgi üretmek için sökülecek şekilde takılmıştır. Mekanikte, tel halatlar olarak bilinen kablolar, kaldırma, çekme ve çekme veya gerginlik yoluyla kuvvet iletmek için kullanılır. Elektrik mühendisliğinde kablolar elektrik akımları taşımak için kullanılır. Bir optik kablo, fiberleri destekleyen koruyucu bir ceket içerisinde bir veya daha fazla optik fiber içerir.
