Casuistry / kæʒuːɨstri / veya vaka temelli muhakeme, uygulanan etik ve içtihatta, genellikle ilke veya kural temelli muhakeme eleştirisi olarak nitelendirilen bir yöntemdir. "Casuistry" kelimesi Latin casusundan türemiştir. Casuistry, belirli örneklerden teorik kurallar çıkartarak veya genişleterek ahlaki sorunları çözmek ve bu kuralları yeni örneklere uygulamak için kullanılan mantıktır. Bu terim, özellikle de ahlaki sorularla ilişkili olarak zeki fakat sağlam olmayan mantık kullanımını eleştiren bir aşağılayıcı olarak yaygın olarak kullanılmaktadır. Anlaşılan "casuistry" anlamı değişkendir. Bu terim, muhtemelen kabul edilebilir bir mantık biçimi veya doğal olarak sağlam ve aldatıcı bir akıl yürütme biçimi tanımlamak için kullanılabilir. Çoğu ya da bütün felsefi sözlükler, nötr anlamı ilk veya tek tanım olarak listelemektedir. Öte yandan, Oxford English Dictionary'de "zorlu görev durumlarıyla başa çıkmak için çırpınan veya kaçamak yolu uygulanmış" sözcüğü belirtilmektedir. Bazı teknik kullanımlar haricinde metinsel referansları sürekli aşağılayıcıdır.
