Piokatekol veya 1,2-dihidroksibenzen olarak da bilinen katekol, C6H42 molekül formülüne sahip organik bir bileşiktir. Üç izomerik benzendiolün orto izomeri. Bu renksiz bileşik doğal olarak eser miktarlarda bulunur. İlk önce, bitki özütü katekinin destrüktif damıtılmasıyla keşfedildi. Yaklaşık 20 milyon kg, temelde pestisitlerin, tatların ve kokuların öncülü olarak her yıl temelde bir organik kimyasal olarak sentetik olarak üretilmektedir. Katekol, suda çok hızlı çözünen tüylü beyaz kristaller halinde bulunur.
